Print magazine VS Digital magazine

This is a Prezi presentation on why the print version would still be bought and the audience would not just read the free online version.

The benefits of engaging an audience by the digital magazine
The digital magazine allows the audience to read parts of articles. This would mean that they are gaining an interest and would then want to continue not only to read the rest of that issue by buying it in print, nut to read the magazine regularly. This would make the magazine more of a success.
The digital version also provides access to the magazine for people who do not like to read as much as others. This means that this part of the audience is able to read the magazine and recommend it to others who may read it online or buy the print version. The website also offers subscriptions to the print version and a newsletter. This would mean any fans of the online version would be more likely to subscribe to the newsletter and therefore the magazine would still make money. For those who the magazine has been recommended to they would be able to view the website and may decide to subscribe to the magazine which would mean that the magazine is even more successful. The online version is also available in different places. For example the magazine would have a page on Facebook which the audience could like and then become more interested in the magazine which may lead to them buying the print version or subscribing the the online newsletter or the printed magazine.

Magazine website mock up.

This is a quick mock up of a website homepage for my music magazine. I used www.wix.com to make this and it would not be suitable for use as a final website as it is very simple however it is just a quick mock up.

The exclusives area is a slideshow of artists that will feature in this weeks issue of the magazine. This gives people an idea straight away of what genre the magazine will be and what artists will be featured so it helps them decide if they want to read it. The homepage has links to music , photos, news and blogs. The music page will have short parts of the interviews featured in the magazine which would make people buy the magazine to read the whole thing. It will also feature previews of songs by people featured in the magazine and info about tours by the artists featured. The photos page would have behind the scenes pictures of the photo shoot for the cover artist and pictures that the magazine has taken of tours and festivals. This would encourage people to buy the magazine so that they can read more about them. The news page will feature news about artists featured including new albums and singles and any events concerning them. This would get people more interested in certain artists and they would then buy the magazine to read interviews with them. The blogs page will have blogs by some of the main people involved in making the magazine so that people could see what it is like and would maybe gain some interest and buy the magazine.
This homepage has some of the conventions found in my magazine website research such as all of the links mentioned. It also has links to different social networks and you tube which shows the audience how accessible the website is. The homepage also features many suggestions to the audience of buying the print version such as " in this weeks issue ". If an alternative is offered online such as " read a profile online ", It would contain less information than the feature in the magazine which would make the audience want to buy the magazine so that they could read the full thing. A convention of a magazine website that this mock up doesn't have is a search bar. This would allow for easy access to some areas of the website that may be harder to find links to by searching what the audience wanted to find.

Magazine launch promotion ideas.

Ways to promote a new music magazine include using a video promotion. These videos are usually less than a minute long and show the audience what the music magazine contains and what genre it is.
Here is an example of a promotional video for a music magazine called louder:

The advantages of using a promotional video for a music magazine is that it can be shown in a variety of places and on many websites and so can reach a larger audience making the magazine then more popular. It can also mean that people can comment on the videos and so it the video is good the reviews will be good and people will be more likely to buy the magazine when it is released.

Another way in which new music magazines can be promoted is to post small interview clips from the people who will feature in the magazine with them saying what they think of the magazine. A celebrity review or a review from someone who's music you like will make it more likely that they will buy the magazine when it is released.

A print advertisement could also be used to promote the launch of the magazine. A print advert can reach those who like reading music magazines but have no internet access. This ensures as larger population is covered and the magazine will be more well know before it is released.

This is an example of a promotional advertisement for a certain part of NME magazine. This advert is bright and has only a small amount of text on so will therefore attract the audiences attention without boring them and so they are more likely to do what the advertisement is telling them to do.

Final double page spread article

I know my music is controversial, but I wouldn't change anything. Why should I want to? I am being myself and I'm not going to change for anybody. Some people are not fans of my music but I'm not going to hold that against them they have their own opinions and as long as they leave me to do my own thing why should it bother me. My fans are all so important to me I feel like I should focus my energy on producing the best music I can for them.
You have had a pretty tough year with the people who don't like your music, how have you dealt with it?
There are people who take their opinions to the extremes.I just say what I feel and some people think it's okay to threaten me and make negative comments on my work. I'm not going to respond positively to them but I'm not going to cause problems for myself. If people do not like my music and then decide it is then okay to threaten me online and bully me I will stand up for myself.
You do have many fans that can relate to your music,
My fans mean everything to me. It's because of them my music has been heard and I owe all of my success to them and my family. If they feel they can relate to my music then I'm doing my job. I can't thank them enough and I feel like it is my duty to continue making music for them and not bow down to the haters. I think my new album shows that.
In 2014 the music business was very competitive, how did you make yourself heard?
I like to think my music is unique in it's own way. There are people growing up I admired and wished to be like and now people know who I am I can share my own sound, which I hope lives up to the standard of the people I admired, whilst still keeping it something that is recognisable as me. I also think it's down to determination. When I decide I want to do something nothing and nobody can stop me doing it.
There were people who tried to stop you gaining success,
Yes,I thought they were my friends but you realise who your real friends are when things get tough. When I was at music school I made friends with similar goals to mine. We used to go to auditions together and when I went to an audition with them and actually was successful some of the people I thought I could trust tried to stop me achieving anything. They are out of my life now and I don't know where they are or what they are doing and I'll be happy for it to stay that way. I'm going to make 2015 a good year and I can't wait for my album so be released!
Well good luck in 2015 Catriona I'm sure we'll hear more from you next year!

Double page spread article drafts

Draft 1
I never intended to be as controversial as my music has turned out to be, but i wouldn't change anything I've done. Why should i want to?  i was only being myself and although some people are not fans of my music i'm not going to hold that against them they have their own opinions and as long as they leave me to do my own thing why should it bother me. My fans are all so important to me i feel like i should focus my energy on producing the best music i can for them.
You have had a pretty tough year with the people who don't like your music, how have you dealt with it?
There are people who take their opinions to the extremes don't believe i am the most controversial artist in the business, i just say what i feel and some people then think it's okay to threaten me and make unnecessary negative comments on my work. I'm not going to respond positively to them but i'm not going to be stupid either and cause problems for myself. If people do not like my music then that's fine they don't listen to it, but when they decide it is then okay to threaten me online and bully me i won't stand for it. I'm not going to threaten them back but i will stand up for myself.
You do have many fans that can relate to your music,
My fans mean everything to me. It's because of them my music has been heard and i owe all of my success to them and my family. Anybody who has supported me is a friend to me and that includes every single one of my fans. I can't thank them enough and i feel like it is my duty to continue making music for them and not bow down to the haters.

Yes, but those people are out of my life now. I thought they were my friends but you realise who your real friends are when things get tough. When i was at music school i made friends with similar goals to mine. We used to go to auditions together and when none of us got anywhere it went back to normal, but when i went to an audition one day with them and actually was successful some of the people i thought i could trust only thought of themselves and tried to stop me achieving anything. I don't really want to say any more than that because i don't know who will read this and i don't want to cause any trouble with them they are out of my life and i don't know where they are or what they are doing and i'll be happy for it to stay that way.
Well good luck in 2015 Catriona i'm sure we'll hear more from you next year!
